A few main differences between the book and the movie :
The book was more detailed -- for example, it told us about how there was a great war between the gods, and how Luke was lured to steal the bolt.
The book expressed more of the character's feelings more vividly, and the first hand account from Percy could let us understand his surroundings better.
The movie, in order to make up for the lost details, had included more scenes, but they still had a similar plot.
The version I preferred :
I preferred the book as although it was not as real-life as animation, it was more exciting, with the readers being able to sense the character's surroundings, how they feel, and leaves us in anticipation of how they were going to react. The way they fought, though not as exciting as the movie, was described more clearly, and that, on its own, can leave a deep impression on us, as we had been captured by the scene.
Moreover, with book, I can always go back and savour a part of the story if I wanted to absorb more information from it, to understand the following scenes, or simply for the cause of enjoying the scene.
Thus, I preferred the book version of "Percy Jackson and the lightning thief" .
